New Post-Grad Position Available: Please read even if you already have a
position.
New Post-Grad (externship/residency with optional supervision)
opportunity:
A new position has opened up at our Waterford practice. This position will
allow a not-yet-licensed psychotherapist (licensed positions also
available) the opportunity to work toward licensure in a supportive
environment and with a higher level of respect as a professional plus
better financial rewards than what most clinics offer. You will enjoy a
very nice office located in Waterford with a large window, comfortable
waiting room, computer, new furniture, and more.
This position is fee-for-service (clinician collects fee and leaves a
difference/cut for the practice) , paying the clinician $17.50-$55/hr. or
more for some intakes and groups. We seek to make this position better in
almost every way to competing clinic positions.
Serious inquiries only, please. 5/06 graduates now welcome to apply.
Please contact Samuel Schaperow, LMFT for more information:
Sam.Schaperow@gmail.com
860-447-2047
Please see below for details on how this position compares to competing
positions:
1. Office: This position provides the kind of high quality spacious (good
for families or groups) setting one would expect in a thriving private
practice.
2. Location: Located in Waterford near the intersection of I-95 & 395.
3. Supervision: High quality supervision options available to those who
don't/can't have their own supervision lined up. Note that while most
post-grad positions pay less, some include supervision, though the quality
is varied and post-grads are unable to choose how much supervision or who
would be the right match for them.
4. Most clinics require vast amounts of paperwork (often an hour for
scheduled client), while this position has minimal paperwork required.
This works out to less than 1/4 as much paperwork as is required in
clinics. Please note that this position does have some marketing
responsibilities, but the time spent on that would long-term add up to a
mere fraction of what extra time is used on paperwork at clinics.
5. Client no-show or cancelation rates at most clinics are typically
~40-50%. At this practice, our typical no-show/cancellation rate is only
~15%. This is crucial to getting your hours and experience, plus it makes
for a nice environment when people are making it to their appointments.

CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN-HOME BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
FAMILY THERAPIST INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
For 2005 - 2006
Program Description: The state of Connecticut's Department of Children
and Families has received funding from the Byrne Foundation to sponsor an
internship program for graduate students in counseling-related programs
who are interested in being trained in evidence-based in-home models of
adolescent and family therapy. Home-based models that are represented
include: Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Multi-systemic Family Therapy
(MST), and Multi-Dimensional
Family Therapy (MDFT). A significant amount of scientific evidence is
available that supports the efficacy of treating children, adolescents and
their families in their homes. The use of these state-of-the-art
approaches to treating families is rapidly expanding throughout
Connecticut.
Position Description: Byrne-funded In-Home Family Therapist Interns
will be trained in one of three models of intensive in-home family therapy
for children and adolescents (FFT, MST, MDFT). Interns will develop
in-home therapy skills through supervision, shadowing an experienced
in-home family therapist, and collaborating in the treatment process
before gradually taking on primary therapeutic responsibility for a
caseload of families as part of an in-home family therapy team. Therapist
interns will travel to client's homes to provide or participate in the
treatment. Interns will be supervised and supported by their clinical
supervisor and fellow members of the therapy team. Many positions require
interns to work when families are available to meet with them, including
late-afternoons, evenings and on weekends if necessary. Interns will learn
to function as part of a team to coordinate the client and family
treatment with external influences and community services, such as the
school and juvenile justice systems, neighborhood environment, and
adolescent's peers.
Qualifications: The internship program will give priority consideration
to candidates who meet the qualifications listed below.
· Graduate student in Master's or Doctoral programs in social work,
marriage and family therapy, psychology, or counseling
· Previous clinical experience (ideally with youth and families)
· Training in systems oriented family therapy (ideally structural
and/or strategic family therapy)
· Transportation and a valid driver's license are required
· Available to work multiple evenings per week
· Desire and willingness to see families in their homes
· Willingness to work with the people, systems and agencies that
affect the child, including schools, juvenile justice, peers, family and
neighborhood
Locations & In-Home Models: Byrne-supported internship
opportunities are currently limited to the FFT, MST and MDFT in-home
models. Byrne funded internships are available with in-home family
treatment providers throughout Connecticut.
Hours and schedule: Schedules will be determined by the providers and
programs supervising the interns and the requirements of the intern's
academic program, however, it is anticipated that intern's will work 20
hours per week.
Number of Internships: We expect 10 internship positions will be funded
for 2005 - 2006.
Stipend, mileage reimbursement & cell phone: Interns will be paid a
stipend totaling $3,600 each for their internship. Funds will be
distributed monthly. Limited reimbursement for travel to and from client's
homes will be provided. Cell phones will be provided to interns to use for
their clinical work.
Application Deadline: February 15, 2005
Application & Questions: If you would like an application or if you
have any questions about the internship program, contact Jim Shaul, at
jshaul@abhct.com or 860.704.6307.
